MARCH 2008 I’ve come across a reference to Hank Williams as the ‘Hillbilly Shakespeare’. Does anyone know who coined this phrase (and when)? Equally, does anyone know of any other Shakespeare references in country music (lyrics, song titles, imagery, etc.). No comment too obvious or obscure. Wanted for own collection: early singles by Dale Watson. Also live radio shows/concerts by Miss Leslie. Cost/postage paid. I’m a great fan of Patty Loveless. She is Number One on my list of country music singers. What is she up to these days? I haven’t seen anything on her for a couple of years. Is she still touring and recording? FEBRUARY 2008 Can anyone please supply me with a copy of CD13 from the Bob Wills box set, Faded Love 1947-1973, on Bear Family, Merle Haggard’s Housewarming Party? All costs met. I heard a track the other day by Moonshine Kate called Are You Going To Leave The Old Home. There’s a line in it that goes, “If sickness overtakes you, and old companion shakes you.” Can you tell me where I can find out what “old companion” means? The recent revival of the Roy Drusky/ Priscilla Mitchell classic, Yes, Mr. Peters, by Porter Wagoner/Pam Gadd and Daniel O’Donnell/Mary Duff is surely sufficient but, as was commonplace in the 1960s, a hit record was followed by an answer, this being Hurry, Mr. Peters by Lorene Mann/Justin Tubb on RCA Victor 8659. The answer reached #23 on Billboard, but has not featured on any of the Bear Family “answer” compilations. Has it ever been re-released on CD, despite what may well be a certain lack of quality? Wanted: Dolly Parton DVDs, videos, TV shows, interviews, concerts and programmes. Wanted: Alison Krauss tour programmes, live recordings, press kits, posters, flyers.
